Transportation: getting around DC and getting to the venue

Driving in DC can be a hassle, and parking in Dupont Circle is often limited and expensive! Here are some recommendations for getting around the city:

Public Transportation

Our venue is well-connected to public transportation options, operated by WMATA. The Whittemore House is two blocks’ walk from the Dupont Circle Metro station on the Red Line.

Buses immediately around the Whittemore House include:

If you’re new to public transit we recommend just typing your destination into Google Maps and using the suggested route—it tends to be accurate and reliable. Another great app for DC buses, bikes, scooters, and trains is Transit.

Bikeshare & Scooter

There are several bikeshare options in the DC area. There is a Capital Bikeshare docking station just across the street from the venue. Lime and Jump operate dockless bikeshares; Jump’s bikes all have electric assist.

There are also (at least) six companies that will rent you an electric scooter, if you’re into that kind of thing. They don’t go very fast.

You can rent a Revel moped (actually an electric motor scooter) with just your driver’s license; they cost roughly the same as a Jump bike or electric stand-up scooter, but they go faster.

We don’t particularly encourage you to use ride-hailing services (for numerous reasons). They are, however, plentiful in the District and its environs, and they may be convenient for our community members from other countries, since you pay electronically. Very late at night (past 1am on Friday and Saturday), the Metro trains also stop running, although the buses remain quite frequent. Some services in the DC area include:
